MIDLIFE MINI-19, Wednesday, November 27, 2024 - Medicine is a Product of Failed Human Health.

Yes, that was a double entendre.

To the bureaucrat, human health is medicine, while ironically, medicine is as a result of failed human health. So when bureaucrats talk about "medicine," there is little talk about health, they mostly talk about health insurance, and medical interventions, and access to prescription medications, i.e., drugs.

For these reasons, the bureaucracy desperately wants to fight change, while doubling down on failure, because the revenue model is successful. As we know, there is very little money to be made off of healthy people.

The backdrop.

"The US health care system ranked last overall among 10 other high-income countries on key issues such as equity, access to care, and outcome measures, according to a new report, Mirror, Mirror 2024: A Portrait of the Failing US Health System, by The Commonwealth Fund.1" (2.).

"'The US is failing one of its principal obligations as a nation: to protect the health and welfare of its people,' said Joseph Betancourt, MD, president of The Commonwealth Fund, in a statement.2 'The status quo—continually spending the most and getting the least for our health care dollars—is not sustainable. It isn’t about lack of resources—it’s clearly about how they are being spent. Too many Americans are living shorter, sicker lives because of this failure. We need to build a health system that is affordable and that works for everyone. It’s past time that we step up to this challenge'" (2.).

Enter, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

"[Named to lead the nation's sprawling Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his] new role would mean relinquishing his outsider critic status and working from within a massive government system, leading an agency of 80,000 employees and dealing with everything from drug approvals to food recalls to the pandemic response.

"So, what happens when his motto 'Make America Healthy Again' collides with one of Washington's largest government bureaucracies?" (1.).

Here is one example:

"Kennedy could also move around funding -- he's said he'd deprioritize infectious disease research in favor of chronic illness research, for example. As avian flu cases continue to rise -- raising concerns about a new pandemic -- public health experts and former government officials have pushed back strongly on that idea" (1.).

So, Kennedy wants to focus government resources on researching chronic illness, i.e., chronically sick Americans, yet, "public health experts," ... cough, cough ... likely currently making bank in the private sector off of sick people, would rather see government resources spent on avian flu (1.).
