MIDLIFE MINI-19, Thursday, October 12, 2023 – The American Democrat Party is Dead.
The enemy is within, like the proverbial cancer on the body politic, it has metastasized, taking one of the two parties within the system with it.
We are confronted with the art of propaganda – journalistic malfeasance – daily.
Here, we have the The Daily Beast’s faux reporting in an attempt to malign Newsmax, specifically Eric Bolling, the producer and host of The Balance, in an interview with, “Harvard Law School professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz” (1.).
That is a pretty longwinded title for Dershowitz, and to lead with it, it is a fallacy, an appeal to authority in an effort to support the headline, followed by reporting that is factually incorrect.
Let us start with the false headline, the drive-by, and for some, the bait-click.
“Alan Dershowitz Calls Out Newsmax Host Eric Bolling in Tense Interview,” but he did not, what he did was obfuscate the truth about the current diseased state of the American Democrat Party (1.).
The lead-in:
“Harvard Law School professor emeritus on Wednesday took issue with Newsmax host Eric Bolling’s characterization of the attitude toward the Israel-Hamas conflict among those on the left” (1.).
Like the headline, the lead-in is also incorrect. Bolling very specifically noted that the Left, including the extreme Left, are some of the most vocal and influential members of the Democrat Party, and that they represent in part the Party’s position on the Israel-Hamas conflict.
As reported, “Bolling began by mentioning the Chicago chapter of the Black Lives Matter group posting—and then backtracking on—a message that seemed to support Hamas militants, and how BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors called for the ‘end’ of Israel during a 2015 Harvard Law School panel. The conservative Newsmax host also pointed out that more than 30 student groups at Harvard signed a letter declaring that Israel is ‘entirely responsible’ for the current situation.
“’What’s going on with the new American Democrat?’ Bolling asked Dershowitz, a Democrat” (1.).
So, what is there for Dershowitz to refute?
“’Well, it’s not Democrats,’ he replied. ‘Democrats are very strongly supportive of Israel. Biden made speeches three times in the last five to six days. I don’t think Israel could ask for anything more from the Democratic Party. It’s these fringe groups on the hard left, the woke progressives, the Socialist Democrats of America who support Hamas, these Black Lives Matter groups in Chicago that support Hamas’” (1.).
Unwittingly, Dershowitz just described the leading elements of the Democrat Party, and what groups and what narratives have prevailed for the past several years. Dershowitz then attempts to distance himself, and the Democrat Party, from the Party itself, yet he cannot have it both ways.
Separately, note that References (2.) and (3.) give account of President Biden, and the Biden Administration’s, response to the terrorist attack on Israel. It must also be noted that any accounting of Biden’s response be understood within the context of the Administration’s complicity towards Iran, and let us not overlook the irony in Biden’s own words.
“In his televised remarks later, Biden issued a blunt warning.
“’Israel has a right to defend itself and its people - full stop,’ he said. ‘Let me say this as clearly as I can. This is not a moment for any party hostile to Israel to exploit these attacks to seek advantage. The world is watching’” (3.).
Yet, who has exploited, “these attacks to seek advantage” (3.)? Among others, American Democrat Party mouthpieces, and those associated with the Democrat Party, including those overseas.
Bolling said as much.
“’It is the Democratic Party,’ Bolling insisted, after namechecking Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)” (1.).
The Daily Beast reported, “Dershowitz wasn’t having it,” but that is also false, more propaganda, because he cannot separate the Party from itself, but let us read his efforts to do so for ourselves.
“’You’re being biased, and you’re wrong, and you’re confusing the Democratic Party with some fringe people,’ he said. ‘You know, we believe in democracy in America, and so these people got elected, unfortunately. I would never vote for them. I wouldn’t vote for any of those people if they ran against Republicans. I would vote for the Republican. I’m a Democrat, so you’re objecting to me here and that’s just not right’” (1.).
Dershowitz, often a reasonable voice, made statements that are inconsistent with reality.
Bolling is not “biased” for pointing out examples of leading voices in the Democrat Party – elected officials, members of Congress who represent constituents – so he is also not “wrong.” Dershowitz then attempts to distance himself from those individuals who ran as Democrats, and got elected into the Democrat Party. Whether he would vote for them is unresponsive to his point, but it is responsive to mine. Dershowitz is admitting that the Democrat Party as he knows it, died, and on that reflection, what he recalls as the Party, is only a minority faction with limited power. Meaning, in order to vote for democracy, because, “we believe in democracy in America,” wait for it … wait for it … Dershowitz would vote Republican.
Dershowitz summarizes my point here, by exploiting his own flawed position, while boxing himself into a corner.
“I’m a Democrat, so you’re objecting to me here and that’s just not right,” said Dershowitz (1.).
What he is really saying is, that he was a Democrat, but that the Democrat Party no longer represents American values, it no longer represents American interests. Dershowitz is taking it personally – “so you’re objecting to me here” – but Bolling is right to do so, because Dershowitz is defending a dead Party, and one that now supports Hamas. The American Democrat Party is now the enemy.
Bolling concluded, “’I challenge you, sir, to show me an elected official on the Republican side who has the same feelings about Israel and Hamas and takes the side of Hamas,’ Bolling said. ‘I don’t think you’ll be able to find one’” (1.).
Like Biden, Dershowitz attempted to wash his hands of the lengths Democrats have moved Left to win elections. Now, world events demonstrate for us that elections and political rhetoric do have consequences – measured in deaths, the deaths of children, and the death of the Party itself.
