MIDLIFE [UN-EXPLAINER]-19, Saturday, January 27, 2024 – The Border, Semantics, and Un-Explaining the Propaganda.
The spin:
“Explainer-What Republicans and Democrats want to do on US-Mexico border security.”
That is the Reuters’ headline, so the reader is led to believe that there will be some type of objective presentation of reported information explaining the difference between what Republicans, “want to do on US-Mexico border security,” and what Democrats, “want to do on US-Mexico border security” (1.).
Remember that distraction.
Even if the reader did not read past the headline – the proverbial “drive-by voter” – the seed in planted that there is a logical divide between political and or legislative solutions between Republicans and Democrats, but that is one rancid seed.
It gets worse.
***
Lead paragraph:
“WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Republicans in the U.S. Congress are blocking emergency funding for Ukraine as lawmakers try to negotiate a deal to tighten security along the U.S.-Mexico border” (1.).
Wait, why are we talking about money-laundering … I mean … “emergency funding for Ukraine,” when addressing the crisis at the U.S. southern border?
It is a great question, but the point is that the reporting has already tainted the headline in the first sentence. Written in the negative, “blocking,” as if funding war in Ukraine should be an automatic, and assumptively tied to U.S. border security, the sentence is crafted to put “Republicans,” not only in the way of funding for Ukraine, but in the way of, “lawmakers [trying] to negotiate a deal to tighten security along the U.S.-Mexico border.”
Again, the Reuters propagandist … I mean … “immigration reporter,” Ted Hesson, has taken the creative liberty to dilute and contextualize the legislative effort as merely, “tighten[ing] security,” but how did we get there from either party?
We did not, “tighten” is a non-word respective to both parties objectives.
Conservative calls are, to “close the border,” while Democrat Party talking points fall along the lines of, “immigration reform,” regarding a, “broken system.” “Tighten security,” is a clear editorial minimization of any observation from the reporting.
Side-note: The propagandists are many, “(Reporting by Ted Hesson in Washington; Additional reporting by Richard Cowan in Washington; Editing by Andy Sullivan, Alistair Bell and Deepa Babington)” (1.).

Second paragraph?
Ted, et al, doubles down, all caps even.
“WHY ARE REPUBLICANS FOCUSING ON BORDER SECURITY?” (1.).
Because that is the subject at hand, but interestingly, Ted, et al, accurately reports the problem.
Third paragraph:
“Record numbers of migrants have been caught illegally crossing the border since Democratic President Joe Biden took office in 2021” (1.).
This is an important point. Propagandists are really good about stating an inflammatory and blatant Truth to your face, but packaging it in phraseology that normalizes it for the reader. Had that been the lead paragraph – the core issue – it would set the stage for debate, and honest reporting, but that is not what Ted, et al, did. He padded the reporting, tainted the waters for the reader, and with a slight against “Republicans,” by framing the issue under the implication that Republicans are somehow distracted by what is asserted to be assumptively essential aid to Ukraine.
These writing techniques are dastardly, yet we are only three (3) sentences in. That is powerful.

Next, statistics, but conveniently no mention of got-aways, estimated to be in the millions. These numbers reported become static, but important, in that “arrested” implies detained, but these individuals are not being detained, they are being released into the interior of the U.S. on their own random merit. Again, the selected language is grossly misleading.
“The U.S. Border Patrol arrested about 2 million migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year 2023, similar to record-breaking totals during Biden's first two years in office.
“During Republican Donald Trump's 2017-2021 presidency, migrant arrests peaked at 852,000 in fiscal year 2019. Republicans say Biden has encouraged migrants by loosening Trump-era restrictions. They also oppose new Biden "parole" policies that allow certain migrants to enter legally for humanitarian reasns, saying they circumvent standard immigration channels” (1.).
The takeaway?
Millions.
Do not be distracted by the magical, ferry-dust reference to approximately four (4) more million illegals – FY2021 and FY2022 – being referred to as, “similar.” It is a minimization attempt to negate the reality of a rough total of six (6) million illegals now loose on U.S. streets. Nor does that number include the first four (4) months of FY2024, nor again, got-aways.

We then jump to what the headline alluded, each party’s position, at least, each party’s position as reported.
More all caps.
“WHAT DO REPUBLICANS WANT AT THE BORDER?” (1.).
Summary, H.R. 2, passed by the House in May of 2023, to “crack down on border crossings,” and, “effectively end access to asylum at the border” (1.).
As noted, “[t]he bill has not come to a vote in the Senate, where it would face steep Democratic opposition. The White House has said Biden would veto the bill” (1.).
Ted, et al, is all in on all caps.
“WHAT IS IN THE REPUBLICAN BORDER BILL?
“The bill generally bars migrants from seeking U.S. asylum at the border if they passed through another country en route to the United States, one of several provisions that would greatly reduce such claims.
“The legislation grants the U.S. homeland security secretary sweeping authority to suspend entry to migrants to maintain ‘operational control’ of the border, a standard that would prevent all illegal entries.
“The bill mandates construction of at least 900 miles of border wall, a signature Trump policy. It would end new Biden parole programs that have allowed hundreds of thousands of migrants to enter legally, including Ukrainians and Afghans.
“The bill would require families to be detained if a parent was charged with illegal entry, and mandate U.S. officials to take steps to quickly return unaccompanied children to their home countries” (1.).

Next?
“WHAT DO DEMOCRATS WANT?” (1.).
Summary, launder more money through Ukraine, and Israel, while also facilitating this unprecedented global migration event with legislation that essentially codifies the entry of millions of additional unvetted individuals into our country, but with even more resources to streamline it.
“A White House funding request pairs tens of billions of dollars for Ukraine and Israel with nearly $14 billion for U.S. border security.
“That money would pay for 1,300 additional U.S. Border Patrol agents, 1,600 new asylum officers and 375 new judge teams.
“The package has been blocked by Republicans in the Senate.
“House Speaker Mike Johnson's office said the bulk of the money would be used to manage border arrivals, instead of discouraging illegal immigration” (1.).
Notice that what Democrats want has nothing to do with securing the border. Their goal is right there in black and white; facilitate the migration event with more resources, or, standby and allow it to happen, without additional resources. Either way, Democrats have no plan to make it stop.
Watch how Ted, et al, goes all in on this migration ruse, instead of calling it out.
“IS THERE ROOM FOR COMPROMISE?” (1.).
The problem, the illegal entry of millions of unvetted individuals into our country, has been effectively been disregarded as not relevant. To Democrats, a “compromise,” is really only a matter of how many resources are used to facilitate it.

Spoiler alert.
Enter, former President Donald J. Trump.
“A bipartisan group of senators has been talking for months about a possible deal that would pair border restrictions with Ukraine aid. Talks reached a critical moment after Trump said Republicans should not accept a deal unless it has everything needed to stop illegal crossings” (1.).
Otherwise, “[t]he core negotiators - Democrat Chris Murphy, Republican James Lankford and independent Kyrsten Sinema - have not said what the bill would include, but some details have emerged” (1.).
It is too detailed to summarize, but the takeaway is this; Democrats want mass migration, full-stop.
“Reuters reported in December that the White House was open to new restrictions on who can seek U.S. asylum and expanding deportation authority.
“Among the provisions currently on the table are heightening the standard for initial asylum screenings and the creation of a sweeping ‘expulsion’ authority that would allow migrants to be returned to Mexico if illegal crossings reached a certain threshold, two sources familiar with the matter said.
“The White House opposes ending Biden ‘parole’ programs that have allowed hundreds of thousands of migrants to enter the U.S. legally from abroad but is open to limiting the use of such authority at the border, the sources said.
“The senators also have discussed pro-immigrant provisions, including adding 250,000 new green cards over five years and providing access to work permits for children of skilled foreign workers with H-1B visas, the sources said.
“The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
“The willingness to consider new border restrictions marks a shift from past battles when Democrats focused on winning citizenship for some immigrants living in the U.S. illegally.
“Some Democrats, including a coalition of Hispanic lawmakers, and immigrant advocates oppose reducing access to asylum at the border and have urged Biden to reject such proposals” (1.).
***
To top it off, all of this is within the context of another crying-wolf threat of a government shutdown, even if only “partial.”
“Lawmakers face early March deadlines to pass government spending bills and avoid a partial U.S. government shutdown” (1.).
***
My advice to House and Senate Republicans, at least to those who are not compromised?
This is an Election year, fund the government sans anymore money-laundering to Ukraine, Israel, and the U.S. southern border. Then, bullhorn Conservative States to continue to dedicate resources to physically stopping the invasion. This mutes all political banter that is not relevant to the actual issue, securing the U.S. southern border.
No more legislation, no more money, no more illegal crossings, shut it all down.
